Obama started pushing for trucks to get mileage, why the multispeed trans have been pushed so much along with high rear gears

Some 6spds come with 308 rear gears

I agree completely on the 4.10s. I love mine. I can hardly imagine less.

Im very bitter about Cash for Clunkers too. I fel it was a sneaky way to get rid of alot of pre OBD2 and 3 vehicles and up potential for more control.

I wouldn't bat an eye at running a 4.10-4.30 gear with that tire. Maybe even a 4.56 depending on your personal preference. The 4.8's need all the mechanical advantage they can get with their lack of tq.

Would you believe my 4L70E truck from 2007 has 3.08's too?? It's a turd until you're running 60mph, and the mileage around town is terrible. But it will get that magic 20mpg number pretty easy down the hwy. The truck is stock minus a S&B intake and a welded in Spintech muffler replacement. Still has the stock tailpipe. Never been tuned. Ive been saying for 3 years I was gonna do a gear swap and I get side tracked every time I get close to doing it.

Do at least 4.10s with that tire!!! You wont be sorry. When I had my 07 I went from 3.42s to 4.10s same tire as you (but I did have ZO6 cam, lazy below 3500) , I dropped .64 in the 1/8 mile = 1 second 1/4! No changes, same weather with 5.3 stalling at 2800. It wont buzz at all on the highway either. If you don't do any highway do more for sure.

^^^ I went from 3.55s to 4.56s in my 2006 Ram with a 212/212 @ .050 cammed Hemi on 32" tall P305/50R20s. Fuel mileage around town was actually better, highway unchanged, and ALOT more get up and go. With the 2,800 rpm converter, 4.56s and street tires traction was always a bit of a problem though.

Cash for clunkers killed the aftermarket automotive industry, not to mention i had seen gmt800 in junkyards from that bs program, a lot of dealers were abusing that as well..... One of the local pick it yourself yards had at one time 6-8 chevy trucks and suvs all with the cash for clunkers decals in windows....

This is coming from a guy who basically had the same truck as you. Do 4.10s or 4.56s and dont look back. These 4.8s love to rev and love boost both of which mine does.

I have 285/70/17s with 4.10s and wish I had 4.56 the 4.8 is just gutless down low.
