I'm still working on this darn thing, LOL. Been replacing seals, o rings, etc. and bushings. It's a tedious process.

Last hurdle, I hope: The rear planetary pinions endplay was a bit out of spec. I debated leaving it alone, but could not convince myself to. So I ordered a Sonnax rebuild kit. Turns out one of the pins had some galling. 😬

Finally started soaking frictions yesterday! I still had the 16 element sprag in the direct and was going to leave it alone. Took it apart and lubricated it. When I put it back together, I did a quick spin to ensure it was put correctly. It freewheeled both ways! I played around with it some more and it seems like it "mostly" works correctly, but will randomly freewheel both ways. 🤕

I'll be ordering a new 34 element sprag. 😒

I received and installed the sprag. I looked at the old one carefully and discovered the little internal spring cage was broken in one spot! 😬

Well, I'm an idiot. I confused the torque spec of the pan bolt with the valve body bolts.

Now I need to source some bolts to replace broken ones. Otherwise I'm sending it...

Doh!

I'll continue here...

Ok, so I'm also doing the ECU reflash for my brother where this transmission is going into. His engine came from a 2002 1500HD that had DBC. I was thinking just doing a VATS delete and disabling the emissions stuff since he doesn't need it, verify the gear ratio and input correct tire size. I haven't opened HP Tuners in months. I'm not a "tuner" and don't claim to be one. 🙈 But anything else I should do?

To recap: it's going into his 90 RCSB C1500. He did a 14 bolt 6 lug swap a while ago, so I think he's going to need the driveshaft shorted? He's doing the gauges and stuff like that. I'm not too familiar with the OBS, much less the earlier ones. I prefer the NBS trucks myself 🙊.

Could improve on your stock PE slightly maybe.

Power Enrichment table? 🤔

He's going to be using his truck for daily driving, not beating on it (everyone always says that, right? LOL)

He's got 3.73 and some Silverado SS wheels/tires. I don't know the diameter. I told him to get a remanufactured torque converter, so factory stall speed.

It's been awhile since I was in HS and I would occasionally drove my Dad's 88 Sierra RCSB C1500, but I think this is going to be pretty peppy even with a bone stock LQ4 on a relatively light chassis. 🛻

All I heard was 4 reasons to do PE.

Well, he got his harness reworked by some guy and he also did the vats delete. He took it out for a spin and said truck ran good! ☺️

He needed my advice with his driveshaft length though. He had done the 14 bolt 6 lug swap years ago and thought his DS was going to need shortening with the longer transmission. So he shifted the engine all the way forward on the adjustable engine mounts when he dropped everything in place.

He measured from the transmission yoke to the differential yoke and his DS was too short! Doh! We couldn't figure it out initially. I advised him to shift the engine/transmission further back about 1 3/8" and worked perfectly.
