8667545 for the shallow. 24215535 for the deep 4wd pan. They should be easily distinguishable.

How many extra quarts does the 4wd one hold, wonder if this would be a cheaper option than going w/ an aftermarket one?

Wonder if the deep 4WD pan (24215535) will fit on my 2WD Avalanche....also, is this the one with a drain bolt?

Mine has a drain plug, pretty sure they all do. The newer ones are regular 6 point fasteners, mine is a torx and stripped upon attempted removal. (the part where the torx socket goes in stripped, plug is still in there holding fine). Not sure how much more they hold, I would assume an extra few (1-3?) quarts though.

My brand new, in-the-crate 4L65E did not have a drain plug on the pan.

they stopped putting the drain holes in them again this year because of the problems they were having with them stripping out.....

Simply amazes me that in this age and time the worlds largest automobile company cannot design/manufacture a drain plug that works. They wonder why they are losing market share.

Is that the issue?

Design, manufacture, materials, process control or cost. If they did indeed do away with the drain (a damn good idea) due to them stripping they are dodging root cause issues with them rather than fixing them or cost cutting. Something other manufacturers new to the scene and soon on the scene will not do.
