Stupid $!%!##@ rear transmission seal
Ok; so the rear seal where the slip yoke goes into the tailshaft is leaking on my truck. I got a new seal and now I can't figure out how to get the old one out.
I tried prying it out but I'd be prying against the output shaft and don't know if that's ok or not? The output shaft moved a little when I tried it earlier so I didn't want to chance it. I also can't get a screwdriver behind the outer ring so I'm at a loss.
Any suggestions?

If you can't get a screwdriver wedged in from the outside, try putting the tip of the driver against the outside edge and tapping it with a hammer to bend the seal inward. Then it should be easy to grab with plyers or something.

I take a wood chisel and a hammer and cave one side of the seal in which loosens it up in the transmission case. Then grab it with vise grips and pull it right out. Takes a minute or two at the most.

I don't have a slide hammer but I'm gonna try oldred95's suggestion tomorrow. I just gotta put it in the air because its so damn low; I can't get under it even on ramps

That's the same thing I suggested in the first reply, just with a screwdriver instead of a chizel
It will come out easy once you get under there.
Then you will need a large socket or piece of pipe the appropriate diameter to properly drive the new seal into place.
Good luck man.
