Default swap ?s

debating on TH350 or TH400. i know i need a crank spacer and a diff flywheel fer the 400. but will the stock flexplate work with a TH350 convertor? and will i need to get a custom d/s made? crossmember?

the stock flexplate will work and if you give Yank a call they have converters with the spacers built in. And yess you will need a longer d/s and a new crossmember will be needed. I'm in the process of doing this swap into a 4wd, I am running a th400 I still have to make the crossmember but I can use the stock one i have to take 2" out of the hight and add 2" to the length.

see a buddy of mine did a TH400 swap into his t/a and he said as long as you use the short tail 400 the d/s will work fine you just have to swap the yoke out. i can go to pull a part and ****** the flexplate and tranny at the same time. the convertor with built in spacer sounds more like the route to go a bolt on spacer just sounds a lil unsafe to me after a while like the bolts may get loose or somethin

you can use your stock flex plate, I'm not to sure on a 2wd the differences in length. I dont have tailshafts but when i measured mine and compared it to the 60e IIRC it was almost 2" shorter. The converter i got from yank is a six bolt design but you only use 3 for the ls1 application

yeah your transfer case bolts to the back of the trans. it might make a diff from 4wd and 2 im not sure. i never messed around with many 400s do they have more bolts on the conv than a th350? from what i understand the 400 is 3 bolts also but i dont know cause the 80e has more than the 60

I dont really think it matters as long as the snout is the same. that is the only part that goes to the trans anyways. Yes the X-members are different on the 2wd-4wd as well as the overall length.

A th350 and a th400 converter are the same converter. They can also be used in a powerglide if a turbo shaft is used. Vince

Do a search for Dirty 30 he has a few pics from his swap, he will know more about the 2wd side of things.
