Default t-56 swap to an 88 C1500

I have an 88 C1500 SWB sportside with a TBI 350 and NV3500 manual transmission. I'm going to build the 350 into a 383, and want to swap in a t56 from a 94-98 F-body LT1. Anyone done this swap? How does the trans fit? Any floor pan mods needed? What about electronics? Please email me or post. kennyregal@hotmail.com.

Cheers,

KR

1993-97 T56 is a bolt in so far as the trans is concerned. The 4l60e and T56 are the same length so you can keep your stock driveshaft and yoke.

You willl need pedals etc.

Welcome to the forums.

I have never done it but what I understand is you need the LT1 flywheel and clutch assembly as well as the slave cyl. I'm unsure of the length difference of the NV3500 and the T56 but the yoke is different. The T56 uses a smaller TH350/4L60 style yoke and the NV3500 uses a TH400/4L80E. I doubt you will have any issues with the trans tunnel and I suspect that the cross member may work as well.

Although this is a swap into a Monte Carlo, this site has a lot of information, some of which may help you:

did you ever do this swap? i have a 1991 sierra with a getrag that i want to swap for a t56, but i want to keep the old style 350, not looking to do a LSx swap like everybody else. I just want to install TPI on the 350 with a new style '411 PCM.

A T-56 from a 1993-97 LT1 F-body will bolt right up to your GEn 1 350.
I'm not 100% sure if the Getrag 5 speed is the same length as the 4l60therefore the same length as the T-56.

You will like the 411 swap. You can run a Vortec 350 crank position sensor, 4x reluctor wheel, plastic front timing cover and Vortec 305/350 distributer, then run the 411 PCM with a 2001-2002 Vortec 350 Van calibration in it and be good to go.
You could also buy a 24x reluctor wheel and use go Coil Near Plug like the 97+Gen 3 engines use.
