Lightbulb T56 conversions. Who's done em? A4-M6

I want a tally who has done this. Would u do again? Problems w/doing? Report any ongoing problems. I thought I read due to a trucks weight, trucks w/6spd manual go thru clutches?
I want details.

-Stock units. Built units.

-What u did to make em survive?

What clutch? What clutch failed/ what 1 held up?

Would you go 4l80E if u did again? Instead of a T56.

Here's the deal. Post up. I know some will say on track auto is more consistant. I want fun, but I have an eye toward durability.
I want my truck into 13.1-13.8 ET, but I'd prefer 12.4 - say if I take a Radix. W/ Radix, & some mods, say I hit 13.0. If I've done the mods I want, I'll use a shot w/radix to hit 12.4. Current mods in sig. I wanna stay w/ 3.42 but may consider 3.73 only after I do mods I have in mind. NO higher rear, it's a DD. To complicate, gas mileage is a mild concern.

04RCSB + Radix. Main ingredients.
Add in cam & heads, not sure which 1st. Supporting valvetrain too.
If I don't hit ET I want, or it doesn't feel like I expect, spray.

Thems the details, let me know T56 info good or bad.

Cost. What it cost u?

Junkyard or did u buy new? How long you been running w/ conversion?

Not sure how you want us to answer you pole, but I am thinking really hard on selling my T56 setup and going with a 4L80 or the new 6L80!

Also do a search! You will find a huge thread on the T56 swap!!!

Stock rebuilt unit. Got it for ~$600!!!
First clutch was the LS6 unit. Held up for only a year with heavy track/road abuse. Then I upgraded to the LS2/LS7 clutch. Swap has been over three years or so. Was running 3.73 and now 4.56. Not my DD!!! Cost all my 4l60e crap? Click on my sig and I have incomplete info on there about the fist year of the swap!

I hoped you'd chime in. I read about your swap & have dabbled in some others threads. So ya, I've searched, but it's been a bit. Just answer truthfully. Good enuff for me. Why change of heart?

Basically I'm saying this...
-Did u do it, not just thought about it?

-Did it meet your expectations? = Would you do it again?

-For what I'm doing, your trans choice covers the other 3 questions in poll. Pick the 1` you'd go w/ if you were in my shoes. Or were sitting on the fence. A beefed up 80e/ 60E vs. T56. Or if you were spending the $, pick your choice. Stay w/ 60e..65e style & hope. Don't use 4L6xx series, go to 80e for no worries. Or fun factor of a manual.
I thinking any of the above conversions T56 vs 80e would have similiar $ outlay. Or go w/ FLT level 5 60e/65e( different planets, pick the 60E or 65E, whatever number makes you all fuzzy, if it says 4L6..,I'll know what u mean).

I would love to do it again!!! "BUT" In the last three or so years my confidence his not like it used to be. The trany feels sloppy, but that might be do to the gears/u-joints/ head and cam swap, who knows? Every time I drive the truck it puts a huge smile on my face and by the end of the night I am so pissed off I don't drive the truck for another week or so. I am just tired of the shifting! The 3.73s were funner (I know this is not a word) to drive, but the 4.56 really woke the truck up. My clutch setups have never felt right to me and would like it more reliable. I don't think it is due to the T56 swap, but my parts combo and tune.

This might seem stupid, but read first. I would like my wife to be able to drive the truck again! This is what I tell her to justify another trany swap! LOL!

More consistent track runs and not having to worry about the clutch slipping and burning up (because the way I drive) are also somethings i have thought about. Nothing will happen any time soon or maybe any time at all, but it has been on my mind for months now. I am sure i will start anew thread on my ideas.

Hope this helps and I am sure others will chime in. Don't take what have just typed and make a decision. Like I said before, I WOULD do it again!

Ben

well as much as I love shifting manually I just prefer doing it in a sports car. I cant see shifting faster than my flt does and i know i would get frustrated in the city with all the stop n go i do.

I voted 4L80e because I know eventually you are gong to be pushing that brick and I always worry (silently) that I'm going to blow the 65 up. The 80e might have a taller 1st gear but in your lighter truck it'd be much less an issue. 80e = set it and forget it.
