Default T56 swap mid or tail shifter location?

Getting ready to swap out my 5 speed to a t56. What shifter location is everyone using to fit in a full center console? I’ve seen both used but looking for insight which fits better mid or rear shifter. Thanks!

I used the front shift location on my t56, comes out almost in the same spot as the 5 speed but I dont have a console so I'm not sure how it would work.

out of curiosity: are you using the MM6 or M12 gearing, and what diff ratio you pairing with it?

i hope you've got some short tires...
i only brought it up because most folks run 4.88s or 5.13s (ideally, in a 14bolt rear to help the pinion size). some guys say it drives alright with 4.56s & the M12 ratios, but the point being how tall the gears are + the extra weight of a pickup = not an easy life for your clutch, and (depending on your engine build) 6th gear could be pretty boggy.

as for the shifter location, there are a few write-ups on building a remote linkage from wherever it pops up through the floor to the cupholder cut-out. that setup tends to have a more traditional feel than making a long offset handle.

good luck whichever way you go with it, and have fun! it's sad how many folks nowadays are fine with accepting automatics as the only option.

My trans builder recommended the same thing about the gear ratio. As far as the clutch i ended up buying a stage 3 monster clutch about 5 years ago for another project and i never ended up using it. I’m going to wait for that to burn up and go twin disk. at that point im hoping to have the truck ready for 750-800hp turbo set up.

Try to stay with a 29" to 29.5" diameter tire (4.10 rear gear) and you'll be o.k. I'm using 245/60-18s with the same diameter as the OEM tires and they work fine.

Also, if you're cammed up, 6th gear will be for flat ground only. The MM6 is more of a roadrace type of gearing in the first four gears and the .50 6th can really kill things on a hill if you've got little to no torque below 1650 or so.
