Ask the installer how he set the gears up.

4.10s in a 10 bolt normally set up as follows:

Pinion depth shim 0.035" - 0.037"

Backlash 0.006" - 0.010"

Pinion Bearing Preload 14-19 in. lbs.

Carrier shims should be tight enough that the diff needs to be removed with tools. Gear pattern should be centered between the root and crown of the gear teeth.

I have installed 4.10 gears in numerous 10 bolts, and they have all set up identical for the most part.

wouldn't the pinion be too deep if it's wearing on the inside? or are we just using deep and shallow in exact opposite terms? when I say too deep, I mean the pinion is shimmed too deep into the case.

Well I called the installer and he was pretty rude today saying how they are just a loud gears and I'm fretting over nothing and he may be able to look at it Wednesday.. Sooo, I bolted the radials up, filled a bottle and am going to make some hits to see if it gets worse.

He did manage to tell me depth is .035 and he set back lash "tight" at .006
But these were his words. I don't know if he's telling the truth or not.

I'm almost wondering if it's in the tru trac since he put synthetic oil in it with these helical gears causing a whine.

This happened to me with my old silver truck when I first installed my gears. I went back to the installer 3 different times with two sets of gears. He couldn't get it to not whine to save his life, kept saying it was the gears.

I took it to a drivetrain specialist here in Austin recommended to me a by friend. They were professionals and had it done right.

Like George said, if it's making any noise, it's not installed correctly. Don't let that dude bust your ***** about it being the gears. It's usually not the case.

Properly installed gears dont whine, if the gears whined on their own they would in a stock truck out of the factory....
