I was so excited when I 1st heard of this product. I said it's a hotrodders' dream. Retro 6 spd. But, in a 4 spd case. Then I found out price. $$$

I realized I needed another option.

Would it be worth the swap for 2 extra gears? I say, will u gain enuff performance & mileage to offset added cost? The difference between a built, ***** out 4L80E & this needs to go into equation.

Decide if u would want a stall. Add that to your 4L80E cost.

Now weigh cost of stall & built 4L80E to this 6spd's better gearing for performance, mileage, & cost. How much cost do u think separates the 2 at this point in the analogy?

I'm not tryin to on your parade, weigh it out.

Julien, TCI reworks a 80E, they manage to put 2 more gears inside a 4L80E case. Claim it's good for up to 850 HP.
Ohhhhhh...never heard of that. Sounds iffy to me! But go for it OP, and tell us how it works!!

TCI 6x
2.97, 2.23, 1.57, 1.18, 1.00, 0.75

4L80E
2.47, 1.47, 1.00, 0.75

You get a lower first and a really close ratio between gears, but the same ole .75 overdrive.

That sure is alot of money for it tho.

They are not putting 2 "extra" gears in it, they are just lock different clutch packs and gear set together for different gear ratios, "creating" two more gears between them. Same thing they do with the Allison A1000 to get a 5 speed to a 6 speed.

It's a big price thing, but some people will pay it, and as far as TCI being all junk, they have been around a LONG time and you don't stay in business that long buy selling nothing but junk

Agreed on all counts. That 1st puts it real close to 1st in a 60E.

Ya, I'd be of what state they're from.

Ya, I just read an article on how that do it, your eplanation is more eloquent tho.
I couldn't remember what packs & so on stay / go. Sounds pretty well gone thru from what I recall.
I agree that a co. doesn't stay around that long for no reason. Or they can market really well.

The way this works is they have added a solenoid to the unit to apply the 4th clutch in a 4l80E. What happens is they are basically applying the 4th clutch to make these ratio's. When the trans shifts to second gear the forward clutch and the 4th clutch comes on. When the trans shifts to 3rd the 4th clutch comes off and the intermediate apples. In 4th the 4th clutch comes back on while the intermediate is still applied. 5th gear the 4th clutch comes back off as the direct clutch comes on. 6th gear the 4th clutch comes back on. The cliff notes are they are basically splitting first and second gear. From what I have been told there have been issues with the forth clutch and the OD roller. I personally do not think this combo will take big power but hey I've been wrong before. Vince
