Teach Me: What makes a stall loose vs Tight
Say you have two 3000 stalls from different companies. Ones tight ones loose. Why? What on the internals makes the difference.

stall to torque ratio. As more torque is applied the converter will "flash" higher.
www.Converter.cc has a perfect explanation of it.

We just had a thread exactly like this a couple weeks ago. I'm sure it would come up in a search in the first page.
Edit: didn't come up as easy as It should have.

Here are the results of some controlled tests that we did to better understand some of the variables when modifying converters.

this is really good stuff! Wish someone had educated me before I put my stall in...tranny overheats when I drive thru steep country roads where ur always in and out of torque. u wanna use all that power to motor up the hills, but as u throttle up and down as u take uphill hairpins and corners the TC heats the whole works up! My stock Tundra and Chev dont end up to far behind...R/

QUOTE=00ChevyScott;4264899]What trans cooler are you running?[/QUOTE]
I'm about to upgrade from what is essentially an OEM unit, but space is the prob. U wanna keep constant airflow, even with a fan in a remote location. Pointless to sandwich it between the heat exchanger and rad, thot about just adding a second smaller one, but in line coolers aren't that efficient. tru-max are nice, but huge and only space wud be below the bumper where it wont get enuf flow unless I do major mods to the bumper. Seems I shuda just saved all the cash and hassle and stayed with a stock TC! I'm not a track guy. My driving is mostly road/hiway and terrorizing local Euro trash from stop sign to stop sign.

A bigger tranny cooler also has more surface area for the heat to radiate, so even if there isn't a ton of airflow, I'd say it would still drop you temps a considerable amount.

ur prob right...I have it at a tranny shop I trust and know finally (Dr Nicks in Milford, CT) and he'll sort it out for me. The guy doing the work is the local head of the Avvalanche Chapter - Trannyman. Doing a retune with BlackBear at the same time and it we'll see if we cant exorcise some gremlins! R/
