Thanks 4L60e...
...for almost giving me 130,000mi of service. Well, my transmission is finally calling the quits. It all started last week, when the tranny began slipping in the 1-2 shift. Then, about the middle of the week the transmission doesn't even want to go through 2nd-it goes straight from 1st to 3rd. Well, this weekend I changed the transmission fluid and filter hoping this would buy me some more time, but my efforts were useless. Today, I was coming back home and about halfway there the truck wouldn't shift out of 2nd and eventually it wouldn't shift out of 1st.
My question is, what type of transmission should be put back in as I will probably end up swapping this myself. I really don't plan on doing any major mods to the truck, but I don't want to be back under this thing again in another 129,597mi. I want to be able to drive the truck like I want. I don't want to have to baby the thing just to squeeze 150k miles out of it, but at the same time I drive normal for the most part. I've read some stuff on here about the 4L65e and what all is entailed in swapping this trans in place of the 4L60e. I really don't want to put another 4L60e under here if it is not going to last. What type transmission do you recommend? Thanks for any help.

hmmm... how much are you looking at spending... Rock on transmissions i understand are GREAT upgrades and i beleive can be built to your standards.. and the FLP trannys are just about awesome.
My build was about $2200 and than plus the verter (which is the small stall i have in there now... which is ****)... and the 2200 was just about bullet proof (well so far it is, lol... i drive the **** out of it and no problems yet)

Do you run a tranny cooler? What about synthetic fluid? My friend's '99 has 175k miles on it and he rags the $hit out of it. He runs synthetic and a large cooler. I don't think my '00 Z-71 has a cooler and it has 135k miles, been babied big time! My '02 has 136k and a stock cooler and shifts perfect so far.

Yea, my 4l60 went out as well. The sunshell broke. (no reverse) but i am going to have it rebuilt with beefy parts. If you plan on keeping it under 500 rwhp then id say just bring it to a good local shop. tell them you want beefy internals, ask around tell them what you plan on doing with it power wise and have it rebuilt. A good rebuild should cost no more than 1800 and that includes install. the 65e is basicly a 60e with a stonger output or imput shaft and a few "upgrades" from the factory. Dont let people tell you that the 60e is a bad tranny because once you fix the kinks its a nice tranny. I know several people that are running n/a 6.0's in their trucks with stock 60's. IF YOU WANT THE BEST 60E AVAIL. your best bet would be to get one from FLP in texas, they might still have the 60e for 1995.00 with a 10% discount and free shipping so check it out. Let us know what you plan on doing.

Thanks for the replies. I think what I am going to do is get the current trans rebuilt pretty good and do as Element 80 suggested and get a transmission cooler and maybe run a synthetic fluid. At the moment I don't plan on the tuck making over 500hp, but eventually I will get to that point. This being my daily driver/work/recreation/whatever truck, I need as little down time as possible and to last until after I get out of school-about a year and a half. Again, thanks for your help.
