I currently run 3.73 gears and 29"tires with my 4L80E.My 403 makes enough power down low that the tall first gear works well with the 3000 stall vigilante.I make all my shifts at 6700rpm giving shifts at 60 mph,100 mph and 148 mph.I tried 4.56 gears for a while and the results on the street were no traction and high revs a highway speeds.

That sounds like a pretty good combo. I'm running 30" tall tires and 3.73 gears. I plan on making the switch to 4.10's. I could use a little more "umph" w/ 1st gear. I think my new 2800 stall will help too. Can't really compare to 4l60E cause my truck came w/ 4l80E stock.

My shift points are set around 5500. I cant remember what my 1-2 shift is, but I know the 2-3 is right around 80 if that gives you any idea. When I had the 3.73's it had a bad flat spot coming out of the hole at the track, but the 4.10's fixed that. I went a best of 8.2 at the track with a slipping belt and rattling cats. It would spin the street tires as loong as you were willing to hold the pedal if you hit it from a dig. Now with the turbo it takes off pretty good and as soon as boost hits it starts to spin some. At the power levels you are at I think the 80 is a must.

I spin my engine WAY up to 5400 rpm at which point it shifts into second gear going 44 mph. Then the rpm drops down to 4400 rpm and the converter locks, and the engine spins WAY back up 5552 rpm. At which point I moving at a blistering 82 miles an hour, just shy of the 88 mph need for time travel......... The rpm drops down to 4178 going into third with the converter still locked, then I do the real RPM/engine stay alive test and spin it up until my IDC hits 110% roughly 5800rpm and 117 mph.........

Why the low shift points? I'm planning on 6200-6400.

Here's my video from the 1st outing at the track with the 5.7/80-e.

http://www.fquick.com/videos/viewvideo.php?id=1605

Relevant info:
4.11 gears
28" tall M&H DR's
3200-stall Yank converter
6500 rpm shift points

The 13.19 pass was on motor. The other passes are all on the bottle.

My impression...on motor, the truck feels a little sluggish out of the hole. It won't even break the tires loose on the street. But the closer 2-3 gearing really helps at the track. Some of the sluggish performance down low might be from the tune, or the dual 3" exhaust. Or it may be that I got so used to the 3.06 1st in the 60-e that I was spoiled.

If I ever pull the transmission out, I'm seriously contemplating putting a low gearset in it.

This scan is pulling a 5800 shift. I can't find a scan where I am shifting at 6200.
