Default Throwout Bearing Question

I have the NV3500 with a dual friction Centerforce clutch. The transmission is grinding either downshifting or upshifting into 2nd gear.

I have always thought that it is just the syncro's worn out and causing this. But could it just be the throwout bearing isn't strong enough to fully engage/disengage the clutch?

Just a thought, any comments on this?

It happens in other gears, but happens all the time in 2nd. Only sometime in other gears.

I have always thought it was the tranny, but was just thinking (hoping) that it might be the throwout bearing.
