Time to replace a pinion seal???
well im kind of lost here on what to do. i had my diff rebuilt about a year ago. new r&p, bearings, seal. it has leaked from the pinion seal from day 1. and its not coming thru the splines on the pinion shaft. so the seal is shot. the original builder is willing to change it out no charge. its driving fine, and it only leaks about a quarter size drop when i drive it, but it is also spraying the underside of my bed too. im always checking the fluid level to make sure its where it should be.
now here is where i have a concern, he said that the crush sleeve doesnt need to be replaced. but from what i have read, its mixed opinions on to replace it or not. so is he correct, or wrong?
should i leave it alone, or have him change out the seal???

ok, well after a good year of this thing dropping oil, and spraying my underside of my truck and exhaust, it is FIXED!
everything went very, very smoothly. 2 things were the culprit, first the difference between the seal that came with the install kit & the national seal was night and day. the national was a much better fit, we didnt even have to pry out the kit seal, it was so loose. then the yoke had some pretty bad grooves in it, so i used some sandpaper to smooth them out. then we put alittle rtv on the lip of the seal, just for added protection. put everything back together. let the rtv set up over night, filled the diff, took it for a drive and no leaky!
the installer was pretty nice to come out to my house on a saturday, and help me out with it. i insisted on doing the work myself, just for him to help me along the way.
