Default tires for a 4/6 drop??? please help

I have a 99 silverado single cab 4x4. I removed the rear lift blocks and installed 2" drop hangers, and 2" drop shackels... Up front i installed 2" drop spindles and drop keys which helped me drop 2" inches more for a total of 4" up front. Im running texas edition 20" wheels. I orderd 275/40/20s and 295/40/20 out back.. what u guys think?

Are you sure you have 3" drop hangers? I don't know of any company that makes 3" hangers. Either way though you have the equivalent of a 2/4 drop on a 2wd. Those tires will be more than small enough on your truck. I ran a 285/50/20 in the back with my 2/4 drop and a 275/45/20 in the front so you will be more than fine.

I think they would work well too. The smaller tires would always allow you to go lower though.

I think you should not use different diameter tires on a 4x4.......

LOL good point. That didn't even cross my mind. Yea unless he plans to ditch the 4wd then I wouldn't do it.

Im keeping the 4x4. Its always at 2hi unless at the track then i launch at 4hi.. Alot of guys over at SilveradoSS.com have done the same drop with the same tires set up and have had no problems. Im going to do away with my drop keys and shackels and go with a flip kit and lowering control arms up front....

275/45-20 seems to fit perfectly on a 2wd 2/4, sounds like you have what would be a 4/4 on a 2wd. As for the lowering control arms up front, are they a different size/length than the factory control arm, or just re-indexed, which would essentially be the same as using lowering keys? I was interested in getting LCA's in the distant future, but heard that all they do is re-index the way that the torsion bar goes into them.

The idea with aftermarket LCA's is improving the ball joint angles. That is their advantage over just using lowering keys. That said, I have 125,000 miles on my OEM ball joints using lowering keys, and they are still not worn loose.

To the OP, if you ask enough people, you will get the answer that you want to hear. It's called rationalizing. To make it clear to everybody else, it is NOT cool to mis-match tire diameters on any 4x4 vehicle that was not specifically designed for the mis-match. You WILL accelerate wear on the drivetrain components, if something doesn't break(too large of mis-match).
