Default too much tranny fluid?

I drained my 4l60e pan through the drain plug yesterday while changing my oil, measured exactly 5 quarts that came out, and then I poured exactly 5 fresh quarts back in. I just checked the fluid this morning while cold and there seems to be too much, the fluid goes about an inch past the "hot" cross hatch. Do I just need to slowly drain a little more while continually checking the cold dipstick level? Thanks guys

you shouldnt check it cold, the accurate way is to check it when warm. They usually all read high when cold.

you want your trans at operating temps, so maybe let it warm up some more. Take it on a short trip then check it. You check it also while the truck is running, dont kill it.

idling for 8mins won't do much of anything, drive it around the block, just be easy on it make sure the torque converter locks in
