Torque Converter shopping: 9.5 or 10.5 ..... Single or Triple disc PI Vigilante....
I am currently shopping for a torque converter and I am checking out the PI Vigilante, but I am a little confused on which type I should get... What is the difference in a 9.5 and 10.5 besides the physical size.... Also for my truck a RC, 4.8 and 220/220 Cam which would be better a single or triple disc... I know what most will say bigger is better, but from what I have read most Yank TC are a single disc... I am just wondering if the extra $$ is needed for the triple disc in my case... Can I still lock up the TC at WOT with a single or do I need a triple? I don't tow anything, I have another DD so I don't have to drive it everyday, and if I am going to spend the money on a TC I want to do it right the first time, I hate doing things twice.... Also I am looking at a 3200-3400 stall speed... Any opinions and/or thoughts???
Thanks again...
Thanks again...

Go with the triple disc man. The singles are know to be very loose compared to the other stalls on the market and a single disc won't hold the power in the long run not to mention locking it at WOT would be a bad idea on a single disc.

Size. Weight. I've also read on here that when some went to 9.5", codes come up. If I'm paying $500-$1k for a convertor, it better be done once. For I too only want to do things 1 time, esp. trans. work!!!
The only way I want to dink w/ a convertor a 2nd time is, only if I want it stalled different. Not for a durability problem.

9.5 normally can not be towed with but the 10.5 are limited to how high they can build em to stall up.
Check to see what they offer on the STR as well as a higher STR will get you a tighter stall for street use.

The 9.5 converters are usually the high stalls 4k +. The 10.5 are the smaller stall speeds but have alot more tcc surface area. I would get a 3200 vig single disk. I dont think you have any reason to be locking up the converter at wot, And I'm pretty sure a single disk would hold anyway with your mods... And learn from my mistakes... DONT BUY A YANK.

alot of guys do it. i for example have a 3600 single disk 9.5 and lock up at 95mph with no problems. and its not loose at all. i can only brake stall it to about 2200rpm before it spins the drag radials.
