Default torque converters ( known causes of failure)

first off i own a siverado ecsb 6.0 lq9 fully bolted, the stall is a 3200 with a biult tranny, anyway anymore info please ask...

now for the problem, i thought i met my match here in town where i live, they dont race trucks around here mostly ricers, but they back off after i launch ( pu55y;s) then turn off on side streets when the are loosing, ok but anyway back to problem, a rcsb came up on me, reving and carrying on, wasnt gonna race but figured why not this truck sounded pretty good if cammed it was small with little lope. glanced over not cracking a smile or nothing the light changed green and we both nail it, i spun so bad ( half truck ahead) when i hit second and tires still broke from street i hit the rev limit truck would not go anywhere and now i have NO gears 1st,2nd,3rd, drive, all gone, nothing NADA..wasnt really a boom or anything just like a bad *** slip, ok i noticed a loud clicking noise around the tc and the tranny, i pulled the tranny out dropped the pan had some dust but not any metal fragments... input and output shaft still in tact... its under warruanty so its going to the shop next business day... but i am wondering about the tc, and how can one tell if the tc went out,..some symptoms would help TIA!!!

How's reverse or does that fall into the Nada category? If you do not have any movement and the shafts turn fine, I would guess that you have a broken pump or a converter. Vince

Pull the converter out and look in the pump where the converter hub rides. Look to see if the pump gear lugs are still 180* from one another.

Converter spacing, debris in the pump, soft converter hub........and so on could be to blame to a pump braking.

Should come with a 13-vane pump. Have broken one of those while cruising around town. Tough for "me" to say what causes 'em to break, but I can speculate on one or two potential causes.

BTW, pumps aren't difficult to fix if only the gear is broken. Since yours is under warranty, the shop will take care of ya.

*edit* Damn, Vince. Ya beat me to it. Is that why you asked if I shimmed my TC? Shimming... bad idea.

well looked at the hub locks i will call it, cause thats what they look like lol, one looks to be warn the hell out flat all but a point closes to the inside of the tranny... like just the inside point is still there. the other looks perfect... so problem solved? the pump... soare the tc's need to be shimmed? or is there an upgrade for it ... why would one break or wear and not both, this was under torque now...
