. just finding a coil over that can handle the weight of the awd ss truck , be adjustable all around , clear the half shaft, use stock mount on top . those will be the tough things and without all of that a kit wouldnt be worth it to make and sell.

with that said , i know i can make a set of tubular control arms so i can mount the shock where i please. i may have a hard time using the stock upper shock mount on the frame though. the thing that makes me want this badly is the fact it will drop a significant amount of weight .

tubular arms vs cast stocks will be quiet a bit lighter, looseing the t-bars is about 40 lbs each , loosing the t-bar crossmember is 30-40 so loosing 100-140 is accurate. with full adjustability .

im going to try some djm lca's and work from there . ill keep this going .

Not impressed with that pic above.

Using the stock frame mount is sketchy, you do not want to do that. You'll need to build a custom mount. You wont save any weight with a tube arm over the stock cast lower. You will save losing all that torsion bar crap you mentioned though.

I've been waiting for the time to build a coilover front end and see if it's even really worth it over what I have now. I'd utilize the stock a arms and hopefully resuse the current drop spindle. I need to measure bumpsteer with the current spindles first though. I haven't had time to pull the front end down.

this has been done many many times, adapters are available, most of the big shock companies have longer end mounts to clear the axle

you need a 850 lb spring

the stock mount is strong enough for street driving, but could use some extra beef

look up superdutyHQ, they have done a few HD's , if i have to find pics i can

i was going to try and find some stock arms and build a jig and go from there. this truck wont see off road but is heavy so i can see bracing the stock mount .

looking at the oem arms it appears uppers are forged and lowers are cast . the problem is going to be clearing the upper a arm using the stock shock mount . i have no problem making a new upper shock mount and most likly that will end up being the easiest .

i just need to find a good coil over that will work and not cost 1k a side. i have the mcgoofy's knuckles and may go back to stock since you can adjust ride height with the coil over alone although using stock a arms geomety may not be ideal.

i agree on the upper arm being light but the lower seems like it could definatly be made lighter. the djm's would help lower it but they are solid and have provisions for torsions which i wont need.

i still may make my own arms and go from there . i also am going to get rid of these bitch *** tie rods with a heim setup . my truck has pretty bad bump steer now with the 22's , which is also another thing i have to consider being able to clear . they are 22x10 with 305/40/22 but need rubber bad so i may have to go to a 285 to tuck a little better.

dezert, matt right? pm me your number maybe we can put some ideas together and build something for ourselves. i have access to alot as im sure you do and i really want to do this . any way i can save some weight at this point is going to help . 6k on race day sucks unless your in a food eating comp.

So I was thinking. I saw a adapter that makes the upper shock mount like a normal shock mount. That combined with some gusseting I think this can be done for not much more then price of coilovers. I would just be scared that lower mount or upper mount give out on hard bump

Chase here's the longer shock end to help clear the cv joint compared to my standard shock end on my truck. I was going to compare it on the prerunner but my garage is packed and didn't feel like crawliing over everything for a side-by-side shot.

I rarely have any free time, but wouldn't mind meeting up one day and lay out the game plan to run some coilovers on your truck.

oh ok , i didnt expect that . with that installed the distance from the cup to the lower mount is going to be pretty short .

also the 4x4 lca shock mount is different , this will give you an idea of what im working with
