2wd or 4wd?

pretty much just unbolt the trans, bell housing bolts and trans crossmember and flywheel bolts, and drop it down, switch converters, and put it back in. With 4wd you have to take the transfer case off and put it back on in order to drop the trans. I tried it with it still attached last time and trying to lift 300 pounds up two feet laying on your back sucks.

You might want to rent/borrow a transmission floor jack. I did mine with two cheapo regular floor jacks and a 2x4 but it f***ing sucked! Jack the front up pretty high and put it on jackstands so you have plenty of room under there to work.

How about cooler lines or shifter linkages? Any of that stuff a pain to get off or is it pretty straightforward?

Shift linkage is a 10mm nut, and the one on the transfer case is 8mm I think. There are two E clips on the cooler lines on the fitting on the case. After you get those off the lines just slide out.

I pull both crossmembers out and can have the trans on the ground in under an hour on my back. I leave the transfer case bolted up.

The neutral safety switch connector is a PITA, a lot of guys have broken it trying to get it apart...it has some sort of glue or something in it. I left my neutral safety switch plugged in and just removed the bolts that hold it in. The one bolt is a little tricky but you can get it with a wrench or a gearwrench IIRC. Leave it plugged in and let it hang

If no issues, 2 hours ish.

If you run into problems.......well.......... not telling.

Just a simple converter swap takes me about 2-3 hours by myself. Though I have a little experience pulling them
I drink a bunch too. In the spring/fall its at least an 18 pack job. Summer is closer to a case, and winter usually only a 12 pack.

I keep as extra set of throwing tools on hand also :nunchuk1:
