I have a 2800 stall torque converter in my truck with the 6L80 and I have been noticing a sound lately that sounds like an old clutch operated cooling fan. It has progressed to the point that I am able to pick up on the sound now while shifting out of park and into gear.

So in my driveway I do not hear the sound. Shift into gear and I hear the sound while the truck remains stationary. Start to move and the sound increases and then falls off during normal neighborhood type driving but comes back again before making the shift into 2nd or whatever gear is next.

Does this sound like it would be something with the converter or something with the transmission pump? What reason would the transmission be making the sound itself when the truck is stationary but in gear, is the pump still rotating anything when the truck is in gear even if the converter is not transferring torque into the transmission to move the vehicle?
