Default TQ converter lock/unlock

I have been looking around this and other forums and can find the answer I am looking for.....so could someone please explain to me what everyone is talking about when they say they have their TQ converter lock in 2nd or 3rd, and it is locked or unlocked on the dyno. Just looking for a TQ converter lock/unlock 101.

thanks
Daniel

Our trucks have a computer controlled clutch in the torque converter which normally locks to eliminate slippage at highway speeds. With tuner software the lockup can be changed to meet the performance needs of the truck. With my Tahoe the converter locks in the top of 3rd gear resulting in what feels like an extra shift and reduced slippage resulting in better high speed performance. The converter can also be locked on the dyno to give higher hp/tq numbers.

where does it lock stock, and how do you know where to make it lock up for better performance?

The stock lockup points would vary with different applications, there's not much point in making changes the lockup on an unmodified trucks.

that's what i thought...i wanted to know if there was any advantage to changing the lock up........i'm planning on putting 1.6 roller rockers on, but other than that all I have is headers, full exhuast no cats, intake, MSD, and a superchips programmer(soon to be Wheatley) that's why i wanted to know before i ordered the wheatley
