Default tranny questions

so i called the local transmission shop today, asked him how much he would charge to install a shift kit. he asked how many miles were on the truck so i told him 50000. he said he wouldnt touch it because there were too many miles on it. he said the seals would not hold and that he would charge me 1450 to rebuild it with my shiftkit and stall...is he tryin to rip me off or is there any truth in what he said about the transmission.

mine sounded like a logging truck until the heads and cam. now its just plain nasty and fun. even with the log truck sounds its still fun and worth the money of an electric cutout
