Post Tranny Upgrade Project

I started my 4L603 upgrades on Friday night, and I have a few comments and questions.

Ill start with the comments: I do not think that removing the tranny was that big of a deal. I ran into a road block when pulling the trans off the block though. I didnt realize that you have to have the trans and the motor lined up in the right spot so the trans just slides right off. I had pointed down slightly enough that I was pulling my hair out trying to break it loose. But anyways it slide right off when I jacked the tranny up a bit the the tranny jack and used my 3-ton jack under the oil pan to hold the motor.

Second comment: I found that the upper bellhousing bolts are not that difficult to remove, I just lowered the trans as far as it would go and got up in there fairly easy with extensions.

Oh, and the TC bolts, simple to remove! Air ratchet took them right off with no problem at all.....dont know if they were not tight enough or what...

Ok, now questions: In this pic below which bolts get removed to get to the pressure plate?

secondly, would anyone suggest replacing the sunshell while I have it this torn apart? I hear that is one part that desides to break pretty often....

any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks

what parts are you changing out?
if your asking which bolts to take off, i'd recommend getting a specific 4L60E manual.

you have to take the valve body off to get to the seperator plate.
be careful when putting it back together b/c the bolt sizes are different.

Hope to "rip" apart the orangy-pink lookin' trans tonight. May not happen though. Tiresome day at work. I'm debating on whether or not I'm going to tear it all the way down this week. I was told by a GM Service tech that the black trans' bottom end was fine... and that clutches & packs were good as new(if you believe that). What caused it's failure was the pump alone... so I'm told. Question is, do I take his word for it (since he's a certified GM tech) or go for the gusto, and get a second opinion. The second trans is a hybrid mutt. That one was pieced together, worked momentarily, failed, and now believed to have a valve body issue. I'm going to swap the pump on "pinky" to "blacky", button it up, clean & spray it up like an FLT, and hope for the best.

Remember to have a couple with it like white 1 did and you'll be good to go. We actually recently stopped painting our units. We blast them and they look like new. No more mess in the shop from the over spray. I really like the new virgin looking aluminum appearance. Plus virgin in my German dictionary translates to "good-n-tight". That's how I like my units and women.
