Default Trans help

Ok guys, been out the loop for a while, and when I was still didn't know much about trannys lol. Stock tranny is going out, but guess it was about time. Currently the truck has a 4.8 with stock internals, a procharger pushing 10lbs of boost and some long tubes and exhaust on it. Of course all of the supporting fuel and tuning to go with it. Tuning is currently mild cause of the stock tranny. Would like to eventually go to a heads/cam 6.0 and maybe up the boost some, but I'm sure thats a ways down the road.

Never had the truck on the dyno, or to the track so I don't know what kind of numbers its putting down. Truck is daily driven so mileage, shift manners, ratios etc are somewhat important. Basically looking to see what is recommended from those who have been through it, or just really know their stuff. The options as I see it are FLT, Performabuilt, or a 4l80. Anything else I should consider? One better than the other? Help me Thanks

I would also add RPM to you list of builders although swapping over to an 80 was the best move I ever made regarding trannys.

Ill give them a look too. Anything I would notice going from the 60 to an 80? Isn't the gearing different in them?

The 80 does have a taller first and a shorter OD. I actually like the taller first gear though as it doesn't have the huge rpm drop from 1-2. The 80 will eat up a bit more power and be a bit heavier than the 60. To me, the shifting characteristics and strength are worth the power/weight penalty.

Wasn't there a thread a while back that listed everything needed for an 80e swap? I searched buy can't seem to find anything. Should anything be done to the 80e, or swap it and go?

redo trans cooler lines, modify crossmember, wire in 2 wires to the PCM, shorten DS, remove and reinstall a 80 output shaft in T-case (if 4wd), swap segments in tune.. and I think thats it. Also, the huge price difference. Id get the lvl 2 Performabuilt 4l60e.
