Default Trans linkage adjustment?

I searched but couldn't find anything. I found that ever since my 4l80 swap my shifter will easily go to 3rd rather than D. You can rest your hand on the shifter and it will fall to 3. I am afraid that it might keep slipping down causing the trans to pick a different gear all the time but unsure. Can you adjust this at the trans or is it in the column?
thanks,
Chris

its on the frame rail. Its a weird little round deal, just follow the cable apprx 3 foot maybe from the trans side.

cool will this tighten that up and make it stay in the groove(so to speak) or just make it harder to pull? its like the notch that the shifter is supposed slip into is not working right

the column has detents that the shifter sticks in. They are hard parts. The cable has that adjustment, or it may need to have the actual piece on the tranny, that hold the casing of the cable adjusted.

It shortens or lengthens the shifter cable a little bit. Should fix your problem. Take your time with it, can't remember exactly how it works but make sure you don't break it.
