Default Trans problems, second gear takeoffs after a couple shifts

Guys I need ideas fast. My transmission starts out in second gear once it warms up a little bit. First gear when it does work, seems really labored to get the truck running. Truck shifts fine 2-4. if I put in 1st gear manually, and get on it, it moves but very labored like I am trying to pull an 18 wheeler behind me.

Mods are in my sig. What do you think it could be?

Sounds Like Its the 1-2 shift solenoid....My Trans was doing the same thing about a month ago...I dropped the pan and replaced the noid with a BWD noid from autozone and its been shifting great since.

Do you think the shift kit jacked this solenoid up?

No these solenoids go bad by them selves...it's a easy fix so that the good part!

I doubt that a shift solenoid is the issue here because you should not have 4th gear if this was the case. If you installed a shift kit let me ask you if you replaced the plastic 1-2 accumulator piston with an aluminum one? I has been my experience that the plastic pistons break often. When you install a shift kit with heavier accumulator springs the factory piston just can't handle this. What happens when the piston breaks is line pressure is feed into the 2nd gear clutch circuit. This might explain your second gear start issue if this is the case. HTH Vince

I didnt change to the aluminum accumulator piston. I will need to find one of those then. I planned on taking out the washer anyways... might as well upgrade to the aluminum piston. Thanks Vince, I was hoping you might lend some advice.

A better option is the sonnax pinless accumulator piston

What supports the blue spring and the gold spring seat supplied in the tg kit? I have seen guys do this and saw issues with the bore getting damaged or the springs getting mangled. IMO if you are going to run these pistons I would get a stiffer spring from sonnax.
