The first time I did it with a transfer case model it was an all day event But after several others me and a buddy can do it in under 2 hours easy. That's with pulling the old and installing a new one.
A 2wd trans swap only takes us approx. 45 min.
I'll dig up a link for a how-to, there's one around here somewhere.

yea a 2wd swap only take about an hour and a half and you can be on the road..
i can pull mine in about 30 mintues... what takes the longest is puttin fluid in it and gettin it to warm up to check the level..
Basic steps:
Take 02 sensors out, Pull exhaust off, unbolt starter, unbolt TC, remove driveshaft, unhook all electrical connections and shift cable. yank it out and throw the new one in.... its that simple... be careful if you have the stock TC bolts.. i would suggest getting ARP pn 230-7304 bolts... way easier to work with and dont have to worry about stripping them. just takes a 6point 1/2 socket.....
dont forget the dipstick tube..... might want to drain the tranny first...

I wonder who tht buddy was LOL...
I've got my r/r time down to less than 2 hrs nowadays barring any stupidity on the truck's part... going back together for me this time will probably be pretty quick. all new bolts/parts plus... we'll see at the end of Feb.
