Trans temp guage sender mounting?
Were do you have the probe mounted? Pan? Pressure port? line? I know the line would be the best place for it but it would be a bitch. What about the pressure port on the side(4l60e) how accurate would the reading be? Where is yours mounted?..

The factory location is in the harness in the pan...
I would NOT install it in a pressure port (line pressure) port, found under the neutral switch. if the probe is too long you will cause more damage due to lack of oil flow that heat could ever cause. But as long as you are sure the probe doesn't interfere....

I've had mine installed in the pressure port for a few years. On my setup it reads anywhere from dead-on accurate to 15-20 degrees over the factory sensor located in the pan. The recovery rate is tremendously slower than the one in the pan. I think the one in the pressure port either picks up case temperature or hot air off the engine. Either way, it is very slow to cool off when I'm cruising along on the highway.

So which one is the most desired to see? I would think pan temp... as that is where the pump draws its fluid and then sends it throughout the tranny, no?
I was happy to see GM kept some options in the standard dash harness... took my stock cluster out... and plugged in an Esky harness and waalaa... tranny temps now monitored. I also have a 180F thermostat for my Derale tranny cooler... once line temps read 180 or above the fan comes on. FWIW, the dash gauge and the Derale thermostat are pretty close
