since it has cooled off around here my transmission hasnt been getting over 100 degrees, in the summer it was running around 140 degrees, saw 150 one time. is there a point when the transmission fluid is too cold? does cold fluid cause more wear on parts than hot fluid?

Yes, it being too cold can cause problems... How is it plumbed? Still thru the radiator?

Mines about 140 warmed up even in the cold... After playing a while it will get up about 180... You need yours warmer, just not over 200, that seems to be the temp where things go wrong.

no, mine isnt through the radiator, i have braided lines from the trans to a 40K cooler mounted in front of the ac condensor. what should i do to get it warmer? can it be done through my tune?

mine didnt get over 150 with a 6000# load in stop and go traffic for about an hour but that is the warmest it got after i installed the tranny cooler

Run it through the radiator and keep your 40k cooler you already have. The temp sticks right around 175-180 on mine that way.

Now do you guys understand why GM runs the fliud through the radiator then through a small external cooler? The water temp is supposed to get the trans fluid up to where it should be and then the external cooler is just to bring it down 20 degrees or so before it returns to the trans. I would run it back through the radiator like GM had it. Just replace the external radiator cooler with something a wee bit larger or if you really want to be impressive, wire a small electric fan to it and have it kick in at 190 or so

ok so which line does the fluid come from the transmission in? (top or bottom) and does it matter which side of the radiator cooler i use as the inlet and outlet?

This is how mine is set up (see attachment). Should be the same from 99-02 trucks/SUVs. The lower line connection comes from the trans, and the upper line connection on the radiator goes to the stock auxillary cooler. The outlet on the cooler goes back to the trans. Hope this helps.

I've noticed if my trans temps are under 100* It will slip once in a while at WOT.
