So i went by my friends shop today with the new to me suburabn... I told he it sound like it needs a U joint or something.

I get a loud thunk from park to drive, drive to reverse bla bla bla...

He checked the u joints and said they are not the best in the world but they are not bad. that sound is coming from the trasfercase chain. He said it might live another 100K miles like that or could snap on the way home.

So anyone of you had this problem... seem the chain has strached over the years causing about half inch-inch in drive line slop, which in return sounds like hell when you shift.

He didnt give me a price, said a chain cant be that bad nor would labor... he did say thought that if it does snap ill have to buy a T case becuase the chain will brake it all to hell...

So any thoughts and suggestion.

I've only seen one video of one case giving it up... on that note I swaped my chain out when I did my 4l80e conversion. I could not tell the differents between the new and the old.....

was it expensive swap. this is a 2500 with the 8.1L.. has 106K miles... i got it off e bay. its in good shape for a cheap e bay buy but that THUNK is gets on your nerves.
