What's the difference between a 1500/ 4l60e and 2500/4l80e transfercase?I'm debating on finding a used transfercase out of a 2500, instead of using patc's adapter kit if it's beefier

Input gear spline count and 6 pinion planetary vs 3 or 4(depending on model year).

Unless you are pushing some serious horsepower no real need. Also the 2500 is not a autotrac .

I know there are both 60E and 80E versions of the NVG 246 EAU (Autotrac). You just have to specify that you want one that came behind an 80E. From the outside they appear identical, other than the input gear spline count. I am running the 80E version on my Av.

So if I go to a junk yard and ask for an nvg 246 that is connected to a 80e and the wiring should be the same

Yes, the NPG 246 EAU is RPO NP8(both versions). Just make sure it is from an 80E truck (32 spline). I purchased a rebuilt unit that did not come with the encoder motor. Just swapped the encoder over from my 60E t-case. If you have to do this, make sure the encoder is in the neutral position before pulling out the old t-case. It will make things easier. The sensors are all the same.

Edit: Not sure if the 02 2500 trucks were available with the NP8, Mine is an 04. I believe that the encoder motor will be different from 02 to 04.

Ok thank you, and if I made sure to get one out of an 042500 or newer I should be fine? And how do I tell if it is an np8 will it be stamped?

All of the Auto Tracs (60E and 80E) will be NP8 on the build sheet(glove box) and will have the encoder motor unless it has been removed and sold separately whicjh is likely. I think you will need to use your 02 encoder motor and I'm guessing that it bolts up the same. The only difference is the ID tag part number from what I can see. First line is the model # and vehicle make. Next line is the part/assembly number. Then the build date/ser #. Last line is the gear ratio.
