Which transmission for 383 LS1?
I'll be putting in my 383 LS1 in about two months and want to go ahead and swap the tranny out or have it rebuilt while the motor is out. Which tranny should I get for the best price. I'm not familar at all with transmissions. I have been thinking about just getting the FLT level 3. Would that hold up good? I have had zero problems out of my 96,xxx mile stock tranny with my current set-up and all I have done is increased line pressure with my tune, billet servos for the 1-2 & 2-3 shifts, and tranny cooler.

first of all it would be best not to increase your line pressure, second, to really know what trans you should get you really need to identify your HP/TQ goals. personally if i was going to get a built 60/65e i would get it as built as i could, go with the level 5 instead of 3.

when i said increase line pressure was bad i guess i thought he would take it as doing it with the tune. it is plenty safe to do it mechanically with the shift kit but i understand it to be not so great to do it electronically with the tune and when people do do it most people just jack it as much as they can.

I know thats why they do it, in moderation its fine but like all things excess is not good. but we both are in agreement on this i know, but back to his original question, which transmission should he use?

I have a guestion for Mr Hemi killer. What kind of rwhp do you plan on putting down? This is what we need to know first off to put you into the right transmission. If you would like to call Chuck or myself we can point you in the right direction. Many people have had bad luck with 4l60e's. If they are built correctly and not over powered I believe they will work. Give us call when you have time. Vince
