Transmission Advice - Built 60? 80?
Good Afternoon, To start off I've been reading on the forum for quite some time and have just recently become a member. I have a 2002 Silverado 4.8 with minor modification and about 156,XXX miles. I am the second owner and this has been my first vehicle. (I just graduated High School last year)
Just recently what I've been dreading has happened - my transmission has started slipping, which I know is a problem with trucks about this far into their lives. My father has had quite a few trucks like these all with similar issues at this time. I am looking for advice on what would be best in terms of solving my transmission problem without spending a ton of money, Built 60, 80e swap and if so what that entails modification/tune wise? Thanks in advance, Justin

Try and find a low mileage 4l65e trans at a junk yard, the 65es are a decent amont stronger then the 60s and its a direct swap. Gtos, ssr, trailblazer ss, silverado ss all run the 65s

Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. The direct swap will definitely be easier. I'm going to start looking for one for when my 60 drops dead. Also what do you guys recommend for a torque converter?

Depends on what your going to do with it. Turbo/centrifugal supercharger go 3600 stall to get the boost going, Supercharger (roots style) Get 2600-3000, and N/A anywhere from 2600k-3400 if its a daily driver. There are people that DD with 3600 and 4k stalls but to me that would be a pain in the *** to get moving in traffic. As far as brands i love my yank and am happy with how it performs.

For a turbo you don't necessarily need a converter that loose... but it will spool quicker.
