Default Transmission confused

It seems that my transmission forgets to down shift sometimes. I've got an 02 silver w/ 4.8 auto and every once-in-a-while when I go to take off there is almost no power (like taking off in 4th)...then the trans shifts into 1st a second later and off I go. It mainly happens in tow/haul mode. Anyone else had this problem? It might only happen in tow haul mode...I just dont remember. If it does then it might be a minor programming error on GM's part for tow/haul.
Thanks, TA69man

tow/haul normally holds your shifts longer, but it shouldnt take a second to take off. Maybe your bands are burning up... whats the color of the transmission fluid.. still a good and healthy redish?

Trans fluid looks and smells good. Tow/haul functions just fine...as does the rest of the tranny functions....it just seems to stay in 4th every once in a while when I come to a stop....then when I go it trys to take off in 4th and shifts back to 1st. The truck has just rolled over 100k and traditionally this is when a GM trans would fall apart if you had towed with it durning it life (thats my experence)....but this one seems fine except for this little problem.
Thanks, TA69man

I have noticed that if I am going about 40 mph and in 3rd gear and then stomp on it, it will bog down for a second (seems like forever) and then drop down into second but it still falls flat on its face becuase I barely missed the 3rd to first power drop. I think I am losing low end power and may be having compression issues, but I hit the nitrous and it all goes away

lol orlando. Ya, maybe you should take it in for a diagnostic check or look at it yourself if your mechanically inclined on transmissions... I just dont like working on the tranny myself. Good luck.

My '00 Sierra does this from time to time but not in tow/haul mode, at least not that I've noticed.

it could be the boost in line pressure is holding it in gear when you dont come to a complete stop. Its kinda like when my line pressure was up the converter rarely unlocked on the highway, now with the low line pressure and burnt up tranny, I touch the throttle and it unlocks.

mine does that sometimes. just be cruising around not hammering on it. and when i get to a stop sign and press the go pedal it hesitates for a split second and then you feel it down shift with a slight bump. then off you go.?

Yep nonnieselman, thats it! I'm glad that someone else has had this little problem too. I've looked everything over and it seems fine...I guess its a program glitch. Thanks everyone, TA69man
