Here's my nickle in the bucket. I'm on the original 60E with 96k on the clock, haven't even chaged servos- just routine fluid and filter changes. Biggest burden I've put of the truck was when I moved from Illinois to New Mexico in 2005, a good 1300 mile trip. truck was squatting some, about level not quite touching the bumpstops but also with an 18ft trailer loaded to the hilt. I had to have my foot into it prety good and was sure something was gonna let go on that voyage. But hey, it's still ticking.
I've come to appreciate the 60E more and more as time goes on. But that's for me and what I use the truck for; mainly daily driving and a few spirited jaunts here and there.Oh yea- I have shortened the shift times and made the torque converter lock up at 39 mile an hour..........

I run at the track about every weekend (bracket racing) for example I made 8 passes last saturday night. I drive to the track about 40 miles one way and put my slicks on at the track. I dynoed 460hp/440tq on Mustang dyno at the rear wheels. I have ripped a driveshaft in half, twisted three axles in my 8.5", broke one ring gear, and broke a Trutrac. I thought my weakest part of my drivetrain was going to be my 4L65E, so I built a another 4L65E three years ago. In three years of track running I have pulled my 4L65E out twice, first time for broken sprag, and the second time to see what was wearing or looked bad after 100 passes.
Everthing looked fine went back together and still running for now? I cannot believe how well they have performed. The 4L65E has made a believer out of me. I'm the service manager at a GM dealership and see the 60E and 65E break in factory vehicles and can be repaired almost all the times? When the 4L80E breaks for us, most are replaced with new transmission do to the damage of to many hard parts (repair price versus replacement). I thought I would have had a 4L80E two years ago? Not now, I will stick with the 4L65E.
I also understand my application is different than one with 35" tall tires?
60' are in low 1.60's.
