Default Truck is acting up

98 gm 1500 . everything was fine with this truck got gas and..
the check engine light came on wouldn't shift down the RPM and speedometer gages quit working .I had to put it in 1 then shift to 2 then to 3 it didn't go into 1 . the gear indicator light is on but goes out when you put it in 2 or 1 . it had 12 trouble codes for the trany and 02 sensors before this 0 codes . another odd thing is this truck is equipped with the auto drive light that never work before and now they are.

The trans will not shift correctly without a VSS signal. Sounds like you lost power to the trans. I would check to make sure that you did not blow a fuse. There have also been issues with ignition switches over the years in these vehicles so that is another possibility. Vince

i had a 97 jimmy that did this to me... i took it to a shop and they said my tranny was bad... so i bought a brand spankin new one and they installed it for 1k total, then it happened again about 50 miles after the new trans install... i was told that it was then my abs sensor, i picked up one from the dealer for 100 bux, it still was happening, then i looked it up on the internet... and i found that it could be the ignition switch... replaced that and WOO HOO! workin trans for then next 20000 miles till i sold the truck. it was not giving the trans any power...
