Unhappy Truck Back at the Dealer for Brake Repairs

Took the truck to the dealer this morning. The service manager drove with me to hear the noise I was talking about when it comes to a stop.
He heard it and told me to drop it off.
For those of you who don't know me or anything about this, it is the eighth time the truck goes in for warranty repairs for the horrible drums on the rear.
We'll see what they do this time now!!

5000 miles and my front rotors were already gouged and warped! Chevrolet brakes have gotten bad last couple years!

That's funny that you mention that about the front rotors. Mine did the same thing at about the same mileage. The eventually resurfaced my front rotors and replaced the pads in one of my many warranty brake repairs (or how I look at it, a patch up repair).
I'm sure we will see a completely better braking system on the new 07' Silverado. I may wait and buy a 08' model if I like what they've done to the new Silverados.
Then again, I may just keep mine and mod it. Haven't made up my mind yet.

They haven't designed a rear disc brake kit that will fit on the 6 lug G80 axle.
So there is really no cheap swap to do from previous rear disc braked Silverados.
Bear Brakes is the only on I know of that offers a rear disc brake conversion kit. It aint cheap either. About $1300.00 for just the kit for the rear.
Then you will never be able place a smaller rim out back with a slick. There kit requires 18" or larger rims to clear the 14" rotors and calipers.
I would do the kit if they had one that would allow for 17" rim at minimum.
Oh well, guess we'll see what happens this time.

Like you mentioned, the '04 VHOs have a 6 lug G80 rear end with disc brakes. Can you retrofit to them for less than $1300?

Got the truck back today. It seems to be doing quite well "so far!"
They just replaced the rear shoes and resurfaced the drums.
Seems as though they never replaced the rear brake shoes in any of the past brake warranty repairs. Not sure why, but the truck stops very smooth and quiet now. Hopefully this fixed my problem.
Many miles from now will tell the truth. Wish me luck!
Then we'll get back to the mods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
