1Bear, thanks for the info, but this is for my '07 Tahoe which is na not the 8.1 with sc.

Jakebrake, I see what you're saying, and your temps. are great, but you are not flowing to capacity until you hit around 180* and the thermal opens fully.

I am actually looking at the smaller TruCool Max 30k just because I think it will help keep some heat in the winter/cold temps. and I am not running a big converter and won't since I tow too much with it...just looking to bring the temps into the 160* range in the summer heat. I also plan on mounting it so it is directly behind the lower grill opening on my tahoe, the 30k is 6" by 23" or thereabouts and will be completely exposed to unblocked airflow, the factory one is blocked by the center bar.

Does it matter if its flowing at full capacity as long as the temps are good? Like I said the highest I got the trans temp, with high ambient are temp(around 90's) was 180*. Id say that is more than acceptable. On my ride into work this morning (about 10-12 miles) the trans temp didnt get above 135* with moderate stop and go traffic. Ambient air temp Id say was around 75*.

I see what you're saying...as long as it keeps the temps down...I just wonder how much lower they would be without the thermal bypass in line.

Maybe I'm just over-thinking this...LOL!!

I wouldn't run without a bypass; I also see some below-zero temperatures in the winter and I was concerned that the tranny fluid would not get hot enough without the bypass. Fluid that's too cold is almost as bad as too hot. I've got the 24k cooler with bypass, a Magnacharger and 2600 stall and I consistently run 180* fluid temps in traffic in 95*-100*+ ambient temperatures.

My cooler is also plumbed from the radiator, into the cooler, and then back to the tranny.

And maybe we are overanalyzing things.

Well just ran it this afternoon, probably a 50mile trip one way. On the way there ambient temp. was 85*+ and my tranny ran up to a max of 183*, was mostly at 65-70mph with some stop and go. The return trip was better, ambient dropped to 77* and trans. got up to 160-165* at a cruising speed of 75-80mph and very little stop and go. I am not running a tune atm and haven't jumped on it from a dig yet...waiting til I get my cooler set-up and a couple hundred miles on the new trans.

Before I installed my cooler, my trans temp was about 175 pretty the whole time on my ride home. Couple of digs and went right up to 190 and I took her easy after that. My trans temp stays right around 150 in stop and go with the cooler and the bypss.

Got my TruCool 30k installed just in time...we have a pretty good heatwave here in the northeast. Took the tahoe on a road trip to the family beach house this weekend and saw ambient temps. over 100*F...my trans. did not go over 160* I could only imagine what the temps would have been without the TruCool...well worth the $100 it cost.
