Their was a thread a while back where one of our members was having a problem with his trutrac not locking when he launched, so he called the manufacturer and they asked him if he was running synthetic. When he replied "yes" the said "there's your problem". He switched to conventional gear oil and it cured his problem. Then a few others chimed in with the same issue and the same results.

It kinda sucked to hear as I had just installed 2 3/4 containers of fresh mobil1 syn 75/90 into tdrumms rear with trutrac just a few weeks prior

That was the topic I had remembered reading!

Looks like I'll be getting some Castrol gear oil then.

Lucas 80-90 here.
I am not calling bs on the part about running synthetic, are we sure it was a tru trac, not a posi(with clutch packs). the tru trac has no clutch packs, all gears. I know that running synt in clutch rears can cause them not to posi correctly..

I would HIGHLY recommend using just a conventional gear lube in them (no additives, no synthetics). Tru trac uses a binding helicut gears set for locking the axles together when torque is applied. They NEED metal on metal friction for best operation.
