Are the 8.5" shims correct for the different size carrier bearings the trutrac uses?

I used the same shims from my 8.5. Just make sure you don't swap right and left.

I took a trutrack out of an 8.5 and the guy at 4wheelparts told me it is the same trutrack for both 8.5 and 8.6, only the bearings are different. I reused the same shims off the trutrack set up on the stock one going back in the 8.5 and it checked out fine. The only thing you need to do if you are only swapping carriers is new bearings and use the same shims, but always check it. 99% of the time when you use the same set of gears and only swap carriers, the carriers will be the same width.

Like I said, I didnt replace the bolts so I'm not sure on the size. Like mentioned, dont swap the bearing caps or the shims from each side. Also, the bearing caps need to be installed with the same orientation as they were removed. Like Howard, I tapped my shims in the housing along with the carrier.

Thanks for all the replies. The trutrac is in. I had to build a case spreader similar to Howard's to get the carrier back in. It has some major preload. I re-used the stock shims and everything set-up good. It only had .010" backlash, seems pretty tight.
