Default Upgrade flexplate??

At what power level do you guys recommend changing out a stock GenIII flexplate for a SFI unit? My new setup should easily put down 550ft/lbs on low boost(up to possibly 800 in the future) with a ~2400 stall converter in a 4400lb truck. I am just wondering if now is the time to change it while everything is apart or use that $200 somewhere else.

Does anyone know if GM has changed design on any of the late model truck plates like they did on the f-bodys in 01-02? I found a post on tech about a trailblazer flexplate. It is any different from the truck flexplates?

I'd say do it right the first time. I've done quite a few engine swaps on my truck and can actually see the converter bolt holes in the flexplate getting elongated. I'm currently running the TCI flexplate. The added rigidity should help some at those higher torque numbers you plan on.

I know you have one for the 80 but I haven't seen one for the 60. I think my only options are the TCI, ATI or MadMan?

My delema is that I believe I will eventually have to go to an 80 as my Stage 5 4L65E is only rated to 600hp in my truck. I am already over budget as it is so I am tring to cut costs where they are not necessary even though it may be the "right thing to do".

A stock 80 will hold more power than a fully built 60.

Bringing this one back up...

My built 4L65 did not last so now I am going to a 4L80. My converter builder can build it for either the standard LS1 flexplate or the spaced 6.0 flexplate(stock 4L80 setup). Since the tranny is no longer going to be the weak point I can pour the power to it. I am thinking about upgrading the flexplate this go-around. Is the TCI or other aftermarket flexplates the standard LS1 spacing? I would like to save the money but my flex plate has 140K of hard miles on it and don't want it to be the weak point. Anyone know if the stock 6.0/4L80 flexplates are stronger than the 4.8/5.3/5.7 flexplates?
