Default Valuetrac posi, cheap TrueTrac w/o the name brand?

Does anyone have any experience with the ValueTrack by USA Standard Gear? It is a worm gear posi like TT and looks the same. I spoke with a rearend shop and they said they are TT's that didn't meet spec, but I have not been able to confirm this. He said he had not installed one yet, but it looked similar to a TT from what he could tell.

Any info out there about these? Haven't turned up anything.

I love blowing up rear ends as much as the next guy, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy something called ValueTrac, or Value-anything. Other than things you might find in a walmart or safeway...

Agreed, but I PM'ed Ron's about a TrueTrac quote, and he said this
We also offer the Valuetrac by USA Standard gear for $XXX, it's a copy of the Truetrac.
If it's the same thing at $100 less, why would I want to pay an extra $100? That's a lot of beers.

The logic makes sense. Are you going to be our guinea pig?

More info from Ron.

Ron, I have heard that the Valuetrac's are TrueTrac's that didn't make spec, is that true, or are they different posi's altogether? How many have you sold/installed? What are the reviews so far? I have heard that they can be noisy (due to not making tolerances enough to be TrueTrac's), true?

Thanks for the help with this, I should be placing an order before too long once I get this figured out.

Thanks,

Stephen

Hi Stephen, your on the right track. The Valuetracs are made in the same facility as the truetracs (copy), but are labeled by a different company (usa standard gear). The worm gears are cut with a little more aggressive design, possibly causing some chatter. I spoke with a usa standard gear employee who installed one in his personal truck. He said the only time there was any chatter was during cornering under hard acceleration just before the tires would break loose. We've sold 20-25 of these so far without any complaints. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Ron
I don't know if the possible extra chatter is worth saving $100... I am thinking TrueTrac since it's my DD and chatter around turns would annoy the crap out of me.

Isn't the Yukon bear-trac also the same design as the tru-trac?
