Default valve body damage

I just did 4L70e rebuild and was having an issue with low line pressures so I dropped the pan and valve body. In the shift kit instructions, it said to install a wire spring inside the EPC filter screen so I did. Obviously, the wire fell out when I was placing the valve body on as evident of the damage to the valve body now.

My gut was telling me to install the wire spring upside down from the way the instructions were saying, but I went ahead and did it just as it says anyway. It just falls out with the way they are saying.

Do I need a new valve body?

how many miles are on that trans? lots of metal in the epc screen... and you can just throw that thing away. ive never put that spring in even using the hd2 kit. some people (not that i recommend it) dont even run the screen. take that spring, throw it in the trash, and check line pressure again.

also put the epc solenoid bracket back on and bolt it up. surely it wasnt left like that.

I just put the transmission in last week and have just been test driving the truck for a few miles. Thanks for the advice. I'll get rid of the spring. No the EPC wasn't left like that. I checking the solenoids before I dropped the valve body.

No damage up above. Could this have caused a code for Solenoid A and no 1st and 4th gear too?

last tranny I bent the spring so it was a tighter fit, no issues. This one I just left the spring out, but the screen is there. i did drill the two holes on top of the screen though to prevent collapsing.

are those metal fragments too big to be clutch material? It looks almost like bearing material. Hard to say, but that seems like a lot of material to be coming from the valve body.

where did you get the trans? WHo built it?

I put it all back together this morning and left that spring clip out. Everything works perfectly and goes into all of the gears much better. Also, no more shift solenoid A codes so it probably just wasn't getting enough pressure to work.

I thought it was clutch material. I built it myself.

Thanks again for the advice guys. I sure appreciate it and like having my truck driving again!
