I was thinking the play was like .007" I dont know if its bent or not. I put the indicator on the shaft (within .004" spec... I saw it with my own eyes whenever i went back to the driveshaft shop to have it double checked.) Whenever i put it at the end of the shaft (toward the rear end) it was reading like .012."

Now if i could only get somebody with a dial indicator to compair these findings to.... Any takers?

It was running at like 1400 rpm in first gear. It doesnt lope that high. Im not looking at the trans for now. Its onto the rear end to find this thing. I really do think it has somthing to do with the pinion. BTW- I double checked angles this weekend and its all good.

Do you have to have the truck running to measure runout? Thinking you could locate the indicator and turn by hand?

I don't know the specs but don't think that much runout would be enough to cause the serious vibration you describe.

I was thinking about it but i wanted a constant speed and the factor out the human element. I also wanted to video it so i could have some data i could look at later on or reproduce so yall can critique my methods. I just talked with Chuck about it and he said if it was like .030" then he would be worried but with that much, it shouldnt be the tranny. It may be a fudged up bearing. Who knows.

What was the angles on your pinion and yoke? What was the difference between the two?

sounds like something in the pinion... you think you could have bent it when you tossed the 'shaft last time? was any of it still connected to the rearend after it broke?
