Default A way to id your trany by vin# for an 04 silverado.

Is there a way i can look at my vin to know what type of transmission I have. and will an allison transmission work with an automatic 5.3 engine?

Cool

You can look up the RPO code in your glove box for your trans code. You should have a 4L60E.

M30 = 4L60E

I don't think you want an Allison trans in your truck but a swap to a 4L80E might be nice if you are pushing big HP.

you have a 4l60e. I wouldnt put an allison in your truck either, thats plain stupid. If you are pushing big hp #(like 700+) then mabye do a 4l80e, but I dont think that is even necessary for your setup. Just buy a Level 5 65e from FLT>>>>>>>>>>>>sponsor>>>>>>>>>>>>

okay so Level 5 65e flt is 3K i can get a 4l80e stock for 900 so then would the 4l80e be the choice to go for.

Don't forget the cost of the conversion parts, plan on tacking on somewhere between $1000 and $1200 to the price of the 80E.

What are your HP goals? The 80E has a crappy 1st gear, and unless you're running big HP numbers it's going to slow you down significantly.
