Don't feel too bad, I broke mine too and wrote about it in GM Hi-Tech, so if you can find the article show that to your wife and tell her even the dopes in the magazines screw stuff up too.

I ended up installing a FLT and it's been problem free since.

Who knew it would be this common. I officially dislike everyone who did this the correct way and didnt tell me. I also officially dislike everyone who broke theirs before me and didnt tell me what to look out for. That should cover just about everyone I think......

What does the servo do for improving performance. I was thinking about buying one, but reading this thread makes me nervous. Is the servo worth doing?

The idea behind the ugraded servo is that it has a greater suface area for added holding power for the band. We do install the sonnax super hold 2nd servo or the corvette servo in all of our unit's. I'm not really crazy about the solid billet servo's(superior) due to the harsh down shifts and also I have broke quite a few bands with them. This is strictly MO and research. I'll stick with what is holding up. Good luck, Vince.

I'm wondering the same thing. I just did a 94 model and it has had no problems. I don't remember two grooves. I have a 90 model out of vette apart right now and I just ckd it (Bare case) and it only has one groove....

Do the new 4L60-e's have two grooves????

Damn yall are scarin me, iv put 2 vette servos in, my truck and a friends and we've drove with them for a year now and had no problems. I never knew you could scatter a trans just by making a mistake on the install....woah guess i got lucky. The snap ring is a pita to get in the groove so i guess thats how i knew i did it right. I also made sure it was in the groove..but it is kind of hard to tell with all the pressure on that outside plate. I also never saw 2 grooves. Mine is a 2000 z71 and my friends was a 99 2wd.
