what is the difference between a 60 and a 65e tranny

Default what is the difference between a 60 and a 65e tranny

just curious to the differences between the 4l60e and 4l65e transmitions and is the 65 better

65 is stronger and im pretty sure its what came in the Silverado SS,but im not sure the internal differences

the 65E is way stronger..

the biggest difference are the hardened shafts and 65E have 5 pinion planetary , 60E have 4 pinion planetary..

so when i get ready to get a built tranny can i get a 65e and it be a direct swap or will i have to do a bunch of other crap like i would have to do if i went with the 80e

I thought all the 99 and newer gm trucks had 65e trannys...

It only features 1 hardened shaft, IIRC, not both. Both hardened shafts didn't occur til 70e.

As charcold-bowtie said, it's a direct swap. The 60/65/70 are based on the old 350 & it's a lighter duty design. The 80E is 400 based (think heavy duty), so it has the bigger case & so on, that's a bit of the reason why u have to do a bunch of crap (in your words). Of course, both have OD & electronics.
