I'm trying to price a Truetrac differential on the internet. Obviously the vendors don't call it a G80.
What is it? A Dana something? A GM 8.875" truck? A Toyota 8?

TruTracs are called TruTracs. The G80 is a GM code for their stock locker. Two different things. I found the best price locally at 4 wheel parts. Something like $365.

You have a 14 bolt in the HD right? Your part number is 914A538.

I bought mine from Summit Racing.

just what ive heard....

But ive heard several TruTracs coming apart,, and it looks worse than the G-80 when it explodes..
guy in a mustang was goin down the road and his just came apart and put some nice pretty holes in his new Diff Cover.

It could have been a lemon, or bad install??

But thats why i got the Eaton LSD, havent heard and horror stories bout them yet..

But remember thats a story i heard, ive done some lookin and found another one in a ford truck that let go..

Won't my stock-size tires provide enough protection via slip?

For your '01? Summit lists that part number as fitting only up to 2000 in pickem-ups, which I assume to mean classic-style 2000s. Mine's like yours.

It could have been the early design. I heard they only had 2 worm gears (which takes all the load) mine has 3.
